2021 Peaks

Introducing the 2021 Truckee Tahoe Peak List! 20 + 1 bonus (Jobs Sister) for 2021! Photos coming as we get to each summit.

Learn about the 2021 Peak Project

Boca Hill

Close to Truckee and low in elevation, Boca Hill is your early-season warm up!

Maggies Peaks – South Summit

The Bayview Trail to Maggies is steep (though short & sweet) and popular, but the views are oh-so-worth-it!

Rowton Peak

Accessible by foot or bicycle in Royal Gorge – many quiet & scenic trails to explore in this area preserved by our wonderful Truckee Donner Land Trust.

Point Mariah

Enjoy sweeping views of Royal Gorge and Granite Chief Wilderness when you get to Point Mariah, a precious gem preserved by the Truckee Donner Land Trust.

Mt. Judah

The 5-mile Judah Loop is a popular classic, so seek off-hours for the best experience. For those looking for a long adventure, Mt. Judah could be a stop on the way to Tinker Knob via the Pacific Crest Trail.

Andesite Peak

Andesite is one of the more accessible peaks. High-clearance 4WD vehicles can drive up Castle Pass Rd once the gate opens to shorten the distance.

Ellis Peak

Epic Tahoe Views. It doesn’t get old.

Rubicon Peak

A big climb yields big Tahoe views!

Bald Mountain

A mellow hike for early or late season.

Mt. Pluto

Northstar’s Mt. Pluto, an extinct volcano, produced the lava and mudflow that damned Lake Tahoe about two million years ago according to Wikipedia.

Tinker Knob

There is no easy route to Tinker Knob, or “Tinkers” to most of us, but the reward of perching atop one of the most recognizable peaks in North Tahoe is worth the effort!

Snow Valley Peak

Snow Valley Peak sits just above the Tahoe Rim Trail and offers stunning views of Marlette Lake floating above Lake Tahoe.

Basin Peak

Basin Peak is just north of Castle Peak along a gorgeous ridge trail. Continue around our favorite 13-mile “Warren Lake Loop” for luscious wildflowers late into the season.

Jobs Sister

Jobs Sister is our 2021 BONUS PEAK. She’s certainly a challenge to visit… combine with Freel and Jobs for an epic triple.

Ralston Peak

Epic views of Desolation Wilderness and the Crystal Range await you from Ralston Peak. It’ll be worth the field trip from North Tahoe.

Rifle Peak

Tucked north of Peak 9499 and Mt. Baldy, we’re looking forward to visiting the “real” Rifle Peak in 2021.

Peak 9499

We’ve been calling this one “Fake Rifle,” as it is often mistaken for Rifle Peak. We’ve hiked and ran past it many times on the Tahoe Rim Trail – looking forward to summiting in 2021!

Mt. Houghton

A less-hyped but still great stop nearby Mt. Rose. Combine with Mt. Rose, Relay Peak, or others along the Tahoe Rim Trail, such as Mt. Baldy or Peak 9499.

Mt. Rose

Mt. Rose is a popular summit, so get an early start. Combine with Houghton (try a cross-country adventure?) for a solid double.

Babbit Peak

Go exploring off the beaten path and find the fire lookout at Babbit Peak. Dirt roads make this summit accessible to a variety of modalities.

Ward Peak

Ward Peak can be a short jaunt in the ski area or the end of a storied adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail.
